Most auto transport companies are legitimate. A few aren't. These checks take a few minutes and protect your vehicle and your money — run them on any company, including us.
This guide explains warning signs and what to verify. It does not label any specific company a scam.
Can you verify their USDOT / MC authority?
Legitimate carriers and brokers have operating authority registered with the FMCSA. Ask for their USDOT or MC number and look it up. If a company won't give you one, that's a serious red flag.

The company name, the website, and the name on the payment request should all line up. Be cautious if you're asked to pay a personal account, a different company name, or a name that doesn't match anything official.
Is the price and process explained in writing?
You should get the price, the deposit terms, the cancellation policy, and how the balance is paid — in writing, before you commit. Vague verbal promises are how disputes start.
Warning signs worth a second look
- A quote far below everyone else. If four companies say ~$1,300 and one says $800, the low one often can't actually move your car at that price. Here's why that happens.
- A big unexplained price jump after you've paid a deposit.
- Pressure to pay immediately or "right now to lock it in."
- Cash-only, full payment upfront. A reasonable deposit is normal; full cash upfront is not.
- No written agreement, no clear cancellation policy.
- Unclear who will actually haul your car or what insurance covers it.
What an honest answer sounds like
