Can You Put Personal Items in a Shipped Vehicle?

Short answer: yes, you can pack some belongings in your vehicle — within a clear weight limit and a few safety rules.

The allowance

• Up to 200 lbs — free. Packed in the trunk or cargo area, below the window line.
• 201–500 lbs — a flat additional charge. Declare it when you book so it’s in your quote.
• Over 500 lbs — approval required. Heavy loads affect trailer weight and balance and need a look first.

The rules

• Items must sit below the window line so the driver has clear visibility and the vehicle can be inspected.
• Trunk and cargo area only — not piled across seats.
• No hazardous or flammable materials. No firearms or anything prohibited by law or carrier policy.
• You pack and secure your belongings. Loose items can shift in transit.
• Heavy or full loads may be inspected and are subject to approval.

Why the limit exists
